Ashley & Alex’s wedding at College Ave United Methodist Church in Somerville, MA
Weddings are all about the details, where the bride and groom make sure that their colors and themes show up throughout the day in a million small things. Very rarely, however, does that attention to detail match the attire to the venue so perfectly that you feel like you are transported back in time. Ashley and Alex’s wedding did just that!
I met Ashley and her bridesmaids at College Ave United Methodist church in Somerville, MA. I got there a little early to scout it out, and soon discovered that it was one of those rare old churches that hasn’t been updated in the last 100 years or so…as I began looking around, I found old hallways with wood trim and plaster walls, and an old 3rd floor gymnasium! Imagine my delight when Ashley arrived and brought with her a dress straight out of the same time period, complete with a birdcage veil! As soon as she was dressed and ready, we took advantage of the unique setting with a few bridal portraits in the church.
Then it was time for the ceremony; the processional beginning the event with the music from a piper bringing in a kilt clad groomsman to light the candles. In fact, none of the members of the wedding party wore pants, it was dresses for the girls and kilts for the guys. After the ceremony, we headed back upstairs for a few more portraits of the newly married couple before heading over to the Veronique in Brookline for the reception.
As perfect as the church was in creating the illusion of times gone by, the Veronique was just as fitting. We arrived a little early and took advantage of the old English manor house styling for some more portraits of Ashley and Alex. Soon enough, however, it was time for the real celebration to begin and the reception was as fun as they come, with many toasts, bouquets tossed by both Ashley and Alex, and glow sticks making their way onto the dance floor!
